5 TED Talks To Help You Rethink Digital Marketing
Digital marketing is expanding everyday with technical advancements in web and mobile applications. For this reason, marketers themselves must be fluid and dynamic with the changing times.
However, how can you differentiate yourself from the pack when using the same strategy or communications mediums that the entire industry has adopted?
Sometimes in situations such as these, it’s important o turn outwards from the industry and seek inspiration from other fields. For example, did you know development for the first instant camera began in 1943 after Kodak founder Edwin H. Land’s 3 year old daughter’s inquiry about instant film?
Land’s daughter having little understanding of the nature of his work was unrestricted in her thinking. In turn, it gave him an entirely new way to look at the potential uses of synthetic polarization techniques. The end result was a game changing invention that allowed people capture images and produce a physical copy on the spot in a matter of seconds.
It doesn’t stop there, as several other technical advancements such as the Shinkansen Bullet Train were inspired by the field of biomimicry– “Biomimicry is an approach to innovation that seeks sustainable solutions to human challenges by emulating nature’s time-tested patterns and strategies.” Biomimicry.org
Author Jules Verne most recognized for his work, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, inspired the invention of the submarine– similarly Verne’s lesser known novel, Clipper of the Clouds, inspired the invention of the helicopter.
The idea is to keep an open mind and pulse on society. Perhaps your next marketing campaign will be inspired by southern migration of Canadian geese. Or, perhaps your children in their open candor will bring to your attention a new way of utilizing social media.
One way or another, cross-disciplinary study has played a large part in shaping the world we live in today and will continue to do so in the future. The field of digital marketing is no exception and for this reason today we’d like to extend to you, 5 TED Talks To Help You Rethink Digital Marketing featuring an author, political analyst, documentarian, designer, and marketer.

And yes, this talk was sponsored too. By whom and for how much? He’ll tell you.”
