A national initiative to create smart cities established in Charlotte, NC

First off, did you know that Charlotte was awarded a 2015 Google eCity Award as the Digital Capital of North Carolina?

Though Charlotte boasts one of the nation’s largest Renaissance fairs, the Carolina Renaissance Festival, the city is also future focused. The Charlotte Research Institute helps the University of North Carolina collaborate with industry experts, host science festivals and create incubator-like work spaces for tech entrepreneurs. – Google

Envision America is one of these ‘incubator workspaces,’ and is a contributing factor to the Queen City’s recognition as the Carolinas digital capital.

Google is not they only large organization to take notice, as the White House Administration is actually seeking to replicate [Envision America] sustainability tech.

Bank of America SVP Robert Vail says,

Envision has saved nearly 50 thousand tons of CO2, $17 million, and 16 percent of Uptown’s energy since 2012. They expect to exceed their 20 percent goal by 2020.

It’s an exciting time for Envision America as this January 2016 as the non-profit just held their Interactive Workshop on January 12th-14th; visit the link here to learn more. The workshop marks the launch of the nationwide program with workshop being held in Charlotte. “City leaders from 10 winning communities will participate in Envision America’s workshop…”
